Edmonton Financial Organization Seeking Corporate Legal Clerk/Legal Assistant for a 12-Month Contract

Your new company

We are looking for a Corporate Legal Clerk/Assistant to join our team and support our legal and governance functions in Edmonton. You will be working closely with our lawyer and our Head of Governance, to help us build some foundational level processes, manage our board calendar, and ensure compliance with various regulations. This is a fill time position from Monday-Friday in office with some flexibility to work partially remote after training. This is a 1 1-year contract with a strong potential to be extended to 18 months.

Your new role

  • Schedule and coordinate meetings with internal and external stakeholders, including board members, senior management, and regulators.
  • Prepare and distribute meeting agendas, minutes, and other documents.
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs), policies, and guidelines.
  • Document and monitor processes and workflows, and suggest improvements as needed.
  • Support the legal function with drafting, reviewing, and filing contracts, licenses, and other documents.
  • Conduct research and analysis on legal and regulatory matters, and provide recommendations.
  • Ensure adherence to the code of conduct and ethical standards by all staff and board members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the lawyer and CFO.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies, law, or a related field
  • At least 3 years of legal experience, preferably in the financial, banking, or similar industry
  • Knowledge of banking, corporate law, and regulations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other software tools
  • Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, and handle multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to learn and grow.
  • High level of confidentiality and discretion
  • Experience working with board members and senior executives is a strong asset.
  • Preference is given to candidates with experience of streamlining, processing and developing SOPs.

You will be working with a fantastic team during a time of growth. This is a 12-month contract with the potential to extend. You will work full-time and have the option to work partially remotely after training. 2 weeks' vacation and benefits are included in this contract.
