TME Construction Field Coordinator – Surface

Your new role

We are seeking highly qualified and experienced personnel to join our North Atlantic Project Group Thompson Projects execution team as a TME Construction Field Coordinator for Surface Construction looking after the Vale owners team looking after field execution for greenfield and brownfield projects for surface and underground construction projects.

The place of work will be Thompson Manitoba, the shift schedule is 2 weeks in 2 weeks out, working 12hr days, for the 14days on site. Direct travel to and from site will be reimbursed at cost and monthly LOA of $2300/month is provided.

This is a temporary position till June 2025.

The NAPG Thompson Projects TME Construction Field Coordinator reports to the Thompson Project’s Construction Lead. The primary responsibility of the TME Construction Field Coordinator is to provide on-site oversight of field related construction activities (scheduling, engineering, material control , etc...) for the field activities being executed by the construction contractor.

The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day duties and deliverables as follows:
• Oversite of the civil, mechanical and E&I construction contractors performing surface construction work. Ensure that work is completed in accordance with contract scopes.
• Oversite includes monitoring and reporting on the overall status of the field activities being executed by the construction contractor ensure conformance to IFC drawings and instruction.
• Monitor changes in work scope and represent owner in the scope change authorization process, as established in the project procedures.
• Understand, implement, and promote Vale’s SHE Policies and Procedures. Includes quality safety inspection, critical risks audits, 5S/Workplace inspections, pre-shift line-up audits and contractor environmental control inspections.
• Provide assistance to SHE team to ensure contractors’ compliance with established safety and environmental procedures and standards.
• Assist with safety audits and investigations.
• Participate in and contribute to the development of a Construction Execution Plan and schedule for the area and for the total site.
• Participate in constructability reviews of engineering drawings and specifications during the project design phase.
• Participate in the development of logistics plans with resources from other project team areas, owner’s team, expediting, warehousing, contracts and procurement department resources.
• Monitor the implementation of contractor QC programs and assist with the implementation of the Owner's team QA programs at the site.
• Assist with preservation plans for construction related equipment and materials as required.
• Issue daily reports reporting on all matters relating to construction in his/her area.
• Closely participate, with the contractor, in the monitoring and co-ordination of contractors’ productivity and performance. Assist in the validation of field progress as it relates to a contractors’ progress billings.
• Act as a liaison to the construction contractors to assist with communicating guidance / direction to contractors through Engineering, Construction, and Pre-commissioning phases of the project.
• Participate in quality and mechanical completion turnover walks.
• Verification of construction punches completion.
• Participate in resolution of disputes and determination of priorities when conflicts are encountered.

What you'll need to succeed

The successful candidate must have one or more of the following:
• 10+ years of Construction Field experience on large capital projects and/or industrial plant sites with demonstrated skills in planning, coordinating, and overseeing jobs in a prompt cost- effective manner
• Previous experience is monitoring multiple construction contractors simultaneously as part of the Owners Project Management Team.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the understanding of construction drawings.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the use MS Excel & Outlook.
• Strong Organization Skills
• Strong Communication Skills, both Written & Oral
• Comfortable working in a team-based environment while possessing the ability to
• manage and prioritize day to day duties and deliverables.
• Safety focused in the field, ability to prioritize self and others
• Valid Class 5 driving license
• Experience with Lean Construction Methodologies seen as an asset.

Work Site and Schedule
• The place of work will be Thompson Manitoba, the shift schedule is 2 weeks in 2weeks out, working 12hr days, for the 14days on site. The rotation / shift / schedule may change to meet the needs of the project execution effort.
• You may be expected to work remotely from time to time.
Travel and LOA
• Direct travel to and from site will be reimbursed at cost.
• Monthly LOA is $2300/month
