Your new company

Reporting to the Vice President, Transmission Pipelines, the Director, TBU Gas Operations will
be accountable for the safe, reliable, efficient, and environmentally responsible operation of
the Alliance Pipeline, NRGreen Power waste heat recovery project, and other connected gas
services as may be added in this portfolio. The Alliance Pipeline originates in NE BC and carries
~1.75 BCF/d liquids-rich natural gas to be processed at the Pembina majority owned Aux Sable
facility in Illinois, with gas sold into the US Midwest markets. This accountability includes all
aspects of operations and maintenance, including Gas Control Operations and Planning and
Scheduling for the Alliance Pipeline system. This role is responsible for leading a technically
diverse team, consisting of professional and support staff in the fields of equipment reliability,
gas control operations, storage operations, maintenance management with a dotted line
oversight of technical operations support.

Your new role

The Director, TBU Gas Operations will use their operational and business knowledge to contribute to strategic decision making related to the development, operations and commercial activities within the Business Unit. You are also responsible to help create an environment to foster high-performing teams in accordance with Pembina’s Values, through action planning, coaching, feedback, and recognition using the principles of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

Accountability to Shareholders and Partners:

  • Foster high standards of Health, Safety, Security and Environmental stewardship. This includes the modeling of safe behavior based on Pembina safety principles and values and ensures high workplace safety standards are maintained and hazard assessments are conducted;
  • Accountable for delivering the Pembina Business Objectives focused on safety, reliability and integrity, cost effectiveness, and environmental commitment to meet or exceed customer and stakeholder expectations;
  • Ensures regulatory compliance in accordance with British Columbia Energy Regulator (BCER), Canada Energy Regulator (CER), Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and the APEGA Professional Practice Management Plan;
  • Accountable for the annual Operations, Maintenance and Capital budgets of the respective assets;
  • Accountable for Gas Control Operations of the Alliance Pipeline and the management and sustainment of the Canadian Control Room Management Program (CRMP);
  • Accountable for Planning and Scheduling inclusive of outage planning for the Alliance Pipeline;
  • Responsible to continually strive for operational excellence by implementing ongoing improvements in operational processes and procedures; and
  • With a vision of maximizing business outcomes, this key role oversees and implements system optimization, technical recommendations, risk assessments and asset reliability controls.
Accountability to Employees:

  • Visibly demonstrate commitment and personal accountability to Pembina’s safety culture;
  • Develop a deep and strong talent pool and maintain a plan for employee cross-training, development, continuity, succession and engagement as it relates to operational aspects within the TBU gas portfolio, as well as supporting Pembina’s diversity plan;
  • Provide leadership and guidance, working in conjunction with the Director, TBU Liquids Operations, and collaborate to oversee resources for the BU operations as a whole; and
  • Participate in the development and support of the BU’s immediate and long-term strategies.

What you'll need to succeed

  • 10 + years of experience in leading large and technically diverse teams within an operations organization and/or a technical services organization
  • Post-secondary education with a recognized Degree / Diploma in Engineering or Technology; preferred professional engineering designation and eligible for registration in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan
  • Experience working with or managing technical roles within a high reliability environment
  • Specific related experience in gas transmission operations with a strong safety culture and outcomes
  • Preferred knowledge and experience in dealing with governmental oversight and regulatory bodies. A high level of working knowledge of relevant regulations in both Canada and the USA
  • Active listener who is adept at understanding competing agendas, building consensus and rapidly moving issues forward in a constructive manner;
  • Outstanding communication and presentation abilities, encompassing both written and spoken forms, for interactions with internal and external stakeholder groups
  • Demonstrated diplomacy and proficiency in engaging, communicating with, and influencing diverse audiences; and
  • A committed leader who fosters a culture of excellence through inspirational
  • leadership, unwavering integrity and a relentless pursuit of innovation.
