Technical Designer - Architecture - Junior

Job opportunity for a Junior Technologist or Intern Architect with a well known firm in Downtown Vancouver

Your new role
As a Technical Designer, you will collaborate with the Design Directors to develop design solutions as well as coordinate the design through the construction documentation phase of a project. You will be successful because you already know how to translate an architect's sketches and documents into realized 2D/3D models and images and can research artistic and/or technical issues when they arise. In your new role you will collaborate on design projects, including programming client needs, conceptual design, schematic design, and design development. You will work with consultants, contractors, fabricators, specification writers, and regulatory agencies to meet overall project objectives. You will have the ability to resolve complex technical and design issues as well as assist in managing client expectations, team communication, and consultant coordination. The successful candidate will provide project team coordination for the finished plans, specifications, and material selections required for construction. You will participate in the construction administration of projects and review of submittals and finish samples. You will also contribute to office activities, initiatives, and learning programs.

What you'll need to succeed
The successful candidate will have 1-4 years’ experience designing multiple building typologies of varying scale. A Bachelor's degree in related field, with a rigorous design education. You will have the flexibility to focus on a single client with a variety of project types or multiple projects in various stages of development. The successful candidate will have strong leadership, communication and relationship management skills, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, outstanding graphic presentation skills. The successful candidate will also require strong Revit skills. You will have knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch Up and 3-D Studio Max preferred. You will have demonstrated commitment to sustainability and sustainable building practices required; Your Portfolio should include at least 1 project with this particular focus, and candidates should be prepared to talk to this in their interview, especially built projects with LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard , Fitwell and /or Net Zero Building certification.
