As the international division, our portfolio is made up of assets in some of the world’s most significant basins in Asia, Africa, the Americas, Europe and the Middle East.

The Process Engineer will be part of the Site Technical team in the Long Lake Operations Group. The successful candidate is responsible for supporting the partial Upgrader start-up and once operating, process monitoring, process optimization, troubleshooting and project development within the Long Lake Upgrader process areas. The successful candidate will report to the Sr Manager - Technical, Operations Projects & Cost Management.

Your new role

  • Responsible for daily process monitoring and optimization;
  • Collaborate with operations team on process adjustments to optimize plant equipment operations;
  • Develop and maintain proactive monitoring tools of the units to predictive and support long term plans;
  • Maintain focused approach in resolving various operational issues/bottlenecks for the reliable operation of the facility as well as ramp up;
  • Support plant reliability, maintenance, outage and turnaround teams by providing sound technical advice as process engineer on site;
  • Participate in daily operations meeting. Provide technical support for the operations group to trouble shoot operations;
  • Conduct incident investigations and ensure findings are well documented and well communicated;
  • Liaise with multidiscipline engineers, external consultants and engineering contractors for basic and detailed engineering of projects;
  • Ensure design and project implementation conform with design intent, specifications and standard practices;
  • Maintain the integrity of the facility PSI information. Lead/participate in PSM activities (MOC, PHA/HAZOP, PSSR etc.);
  • Ensure that process engineering deliverables are met in a timely fashion (SAGD and/or Upgrader);
  • Provide support to the business planning group for monthly planning, statutory compliance, etc.


What you'll need to succeed

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and eligible for professional registration with APEGA;
  • Minimum of 5 years of process engineering site experience in refinery/upgrader environment. A combination of operations and EPC environment would be acceptable;
  • Previous experience in SAGD would also be considered an asset;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills matched with hands on approach to solving problems;
  • Working knowledge of all relevant codes, and standards;
  • Superior analytical, planning and execution capabilities and the ability to develop timely effective solutions;
  • Ability to work in an integrated team atmosphere but also can work independently;
  • Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail programs, document control and drawing management systems;
  • Commitment to the successful introduction of work processes; a safety-first culture; and adherence to Safe Work Practices and Corporate Policy;
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license;
  • Must be legally permitted to work in Canada.
