Our Client Canada is looking for a Safety, Health & Environment Specialist. The position is located in Montreal, QC and requires travel within immediate work area on a regular basis. We are open to candidates living in Ottawa, ON. The Safety, Health & Environment specialist support the Manager of Health, Safety, and Environment on occupational health and safety, injury prevention, audits, and wellness programs, to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, corporate policies and procedures, to reduce related risks and achieve zero accidents/injuries. This role also works closely with Operation, engineering and vehicle maintenance group.

Your new role

Under the general direction of the HSE Manager is accountable for the following:
  • Immediately respond, analyze and investigate all incidents to determine true cause and implement corrective actions.
  • Field visits to review safety of our employees on all job sites within the region.
  • Liaises with health and safety regulatory authorities like ESDC & Transport Canada
  • Maintains a record each for in-house accidents, both settled and contended claims, and best practices for the organization to ensure its practices are healthy and safe
  • Diversified professional expertise in the majority of these areas; Occupational Health and Safety, Dangerous Goods, Fire Prevention, Vehicle or Driving safety and fire code.
  • Strong understanding of government legislation and the interpretation and application of constantly changing and evolving legislation to company health and safety programs/ policies.
  • Collects and analyzes data and prepares applicable reports and proposals.
  • Supports and provides direction to operation team in HSE matters.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

What you'll need to succeed

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
  • Bachelor's Degree - Degree - Health, Safety and/or Engineering or Environment
  • Accréditations/Certifications/License - Professional accréditation (CRSP)
  • Minimum number of years required for entry to this job - 4 years in the field of Safety, Process Safety or Environment
  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of various Canadian Safety regulations, Canada Labour Code Part II.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, multi-task and manage internal/external relationships effectively.
  • Sound judgement and excellent communications skills.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Critical Thinking Skills, analytical reasoning
  • High sense of urgency and organization / prioritization skills
  • Able to work as a key member of a team as well as independently
  • Strong proficiency and skills in the Microsoft Office Suites, and have the ability to learn an internal database system
  • Required to occasionally work overtime
  • Required to work irregular working hours based on operational needs
  • Travel within geographic territory.
  • Fully bilingual in English and French.
