Due to growth they are seeking a Payroll Analyst to join their growing yet established team at the Corporate Office in Acheson, AB.

Your new role
Reporting to the Supervisor, Payroll, this position is responsible for all activities as they relate to the Company’s payroll auditing, reporting & reconciliations. The Analyst is also responsible for vacation coverage and peer review of the West Staff payroll & international payrolls. Responding to payroll inquiries from management is a responsibility, as is communicating with HR representatives, retirement carriers, Ultimate Software, and government departments. Other duties as required.
  • Is fully trained on all aspects of the day to day payroll, remains up to date on the current procedures & processes. Is responsible for peer reviewing the Western Region Salaried payroll, Alaska Staff & Hourly payroll & Mongolia expatriate payroll.
  • Has their PCP designation and maintains its active status
  • Administers and interprets diverse and complex payroll and benefit regulations.
  • Remains current on all ongoing changes to payroll and benefits administration and governing legislation and laws.
  • Ensures appropriate records are maintained to support payroll and HR department.
  • Ability to process all payroll related changes.
  • Ability to calculate payroll liabilities; employee federal and provincial income taxes, employment insurance, federal pension plan and worker’s compensation deductions, NWT & Mongolia Tax deductions.
  • Verifies accuracy of the payroll data from the Ultipro time and attendance program
  • Verifies accuracy of the payroll data from the eXtend ERP system.
  • Processes all applicable garnishments, retirement contributions and records of employment when required for vacation coverage
  • Communicates with employees and department contacts.
  • Replies verbally or by written correspondence to payroll and benefit enquiries.
  • Provides information to management and employees. Significant contact (internal and external) for problem solving and conflict/complaint resolution.
  • Audits Rates, Premiums & Hours extracted from the eXtend ERP system
  • Extracts payroll data from the eXtend ERP system and verifies its accuracy
  • Forwards verified information to the Hourly Payroll Analysts for entry
  • Prepares Quarterly & Annually the Branch Incentive Calculations and Statements
  • Keeps a master incentive spreadsheet up to date monthly
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly and year-end reporting.
  • Assists in preparation of T4’s and T2200’s
  • Assists in balancing T4 Summaries for all salaried and hourly payrolls
  • Assists in annual budget preparation and delivery for SMS Equipment
  • Sometimes collects Vehicle Logs & prepares calculations for personal use of a company vehicle
  • Audits monthly the Social Club report for EFT by the Accounts Payable department
  • Audits quarterly the Vacation accrual hours and vac pay %
  • Audits quarterly the benefit deduction and taxable amounts
  • Audits quarterly the RRSP/TFSA contributions
  • Prepares Monthly the WSUP Chargeable versus non-chargeable time report from eXtend for the Company Workforce reporting
  • Is proficient in creating and editing reports in Ultipro Business Intelligence (BI).
  • Keeps up to date on BI training and changes
  • Creates and edits simple and complex BI reports for the Payroll Team
  • Keeps current BI reports updated as required
  • Keeps up to date on triggers and alerts
  • Creates and maintains triggers and alerts for the payroll department
  • Triggers the process for adding or editing Earning & Deduction Codes
  • Keeps up to date on Ultipro changes and updates as they pertain to Earning and Deduction code configuration
  • Fills out forms for adding or editing Earning and deduction codes and completes all investigations required before making a final recommendation

What you'll need to succeed
  • Payroll and benefits activities require extensive knowledge of Ultimate Software’s payroll and benefits system.
  • Ability to speak in front of and present to management and coworkers.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of excel (pivot tables, vlookups, complex calculations, quick formatting and short cuts).
  • Must have above average interpersonal skills
  • Full working knowledge of payroll and benefits regulations, legislation and collective agreements.
  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively deal with all clients and internal/external agencies in the resolution of problems.
  • Requires excellent analytical skills and an attention to detail.
  • PCP Certification is required (i.e. working towards Payroll Management Designation with the Canadian Payroll Association a plus), and a minimum of 3-5 years of experience.
  • Post secondary diploma in Accounting or Business Administration
