Senior Accountant for Mining Company in Northwestern Ontario

The client of Hays, a reputable and leading gold Mining organization in Northwestern Ontario, is looking to add a Senior Accountant to the Accounting and Finance team. This individual will report to the Controller and be responsible for budgeting, reporting, forecasting and analysis. This company is looking for a CPA designated Accountant, from a project- based industry or from public accounting, who is self-driven and forward thinking. Your new role
As the Senior Accountant, you will have the following responsibilities:
• Developing effective cost systems and procedures;
• Assisting Management in the reporting, review and analysis of departmental costs and performance;
• Preparing monthly journal entries and supporting working papers;
• Monitoring accounting functions to ensure sound fiscal control in addition to performing cost control activities;
• Developing reports to assist Management in understanding departmental costs;
• Preparing General Ledger and Bank Reconciliations;
• Assisting in quarterly and year end audits;
• Preparing statistical surveys to external agencies, including Statistics Canada and Natural Resources Canada; • Maintaining SOX working papers and ensuring compliance with internal controls;
• Performing other duties in full compliance with IFRS standards, policies, and procedures

What you'll need to succeed
As the qualified Senior Accountant, you will have the following qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in a related discipline (Business, Commerce, Accounting, Economics, etc.);
• Professional accounting designation or working towards designation is required;
• Experience working in an accounting firm is an asset;
• 5+ years of accounting experience (within the mining/resource sector preferred);
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with SAP, and BPC would be considered an asset;
• Ability to adapt to change in a dynamic and growing company;
• Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills;
• Demonstrated ability to work safely;
• Experience working at a remote work site is an asset;
• Experience in a cross-cultural work environment;

What you'll get in return
As the Senior Accountant your starting salary will be from $90,000-$110,000 + 10% Bonus. In addition to this you will have 3-4 weeks of vacation plus a complete benefits package with RRSP matching. Should you relocate for this opportunity, there will be a relocation assistance package provided. Please note that priority will be given to a candidate who is willing to relocate and work a Monday to Friday, but consideration will be given to a 14x14 rotation role.
