Logistics Procurement Specialist, Toronto, ON. 6 month contract - permanent

Hays Procurement Contract Recruitment has partnered with a mining company in search of a Logistics Procurement Specialist to join their down town Toronto operations. This position will commence as a 6 month contract with potential for permanency after a performance based review. This Logistics Procurement Specialist will be responsible for the negotiation and management of the logistics contracts and relationships that cover movement of production feed and finished goods. 

Your new role

  • Portfolio of 75+ agreements covering warehousing and shipping of materials via rail, truck and vessel within Canada, US and International destinations.
  • Negotiated value exceeds CAD 200 M.
  • Working with Manager, assess priority agreements for opportunities to reduce costs, consolidate contracts, improve performance bringing incumbents experience in conjunction with generally accepted procurement practices.
  • Prepare a draft work plan which takes into account opportunities, gaps and expiry dates. The document will eventually be the guideline for the transportation category strategy
  • Work with primary customers to influence the go-forward service model design, taking into account new segregation and extension of governance and business processes to the marketing department.
  • Attend frequent discussions in order to support management of change, coordinate gaps in transition and transition to new roles
  • Meet with all key suppliers to introduce new agreement management approach, assess opportunities for improvement, areas of concern
  • Working with other departments, determine if there is supplier, lane or activity overlapping inbound logistics.
  • Visit the warehouse locations in which materials are stored and provide and assessment of the facilities.
  • Assess all available KPI’s (supplier, the company, other) to define a working to baseline from existing information. Utilize the available data to recommend model and to assess health of the category.
  • Perform RFP’s and renegotiations as time or criticality
  • Reading contracts, analyzing contracts and determining where there could be holes and areas of improvement or cost 
  • Some Excel Analysis will be required
  • Other relatable duties as assigned by management 

What you'll need to succeed
  • 7-10 years of experience managing transportation contracts, preferably truck, rail and warehousing.
  • Solid analytical skills, experience managing performance of transportation using data and KPI’s
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Experience in evaluating and transforming transportation portfolio is a definite asset
  • Knowledge of the Canadian rail and trucking systems
  • No specific software experiences needed, MS Office, proficiency with Excel
  • Flexibility, will be working with different departments, and scoping out the role internally

What you'll get in return
This is a 6 month contract with potential to permanency. This position is based in down town Toronto and is offering $65.00 - $75.00 an hour. This position will commence in January 2019.
